Sending tattoo aftercare instructions people actually read
The printed aftercare sheet usually ends up on the floor of the car. Then you get the same question at 11pm on day three. Here's how to get the information to them at the point they actually need it.
Send it in pieces, not all at once
Nobody takes in a full page of instructions an hour after getting tattooed. Split it up so each message arrives when it matters.
- Same day: your wrap or bandage method, washing, and what to stay away from this week.
- A few days in: peeling and itching are normal, don't pick at it, here's what isn't normal.
- A few weeks in: how's it healing, send me a photo, here's how to ask for a touch-up.
Write it in your own words
Artists teach different methods. Whatever yours is, write it the way you'd explain it at the counter. Clients read something that sounds like you. They skim something that sounds like a leaflet.
Include a line telling them when to see a doctor instead of messaging you: spreading redness, heat, fever. That protects them and it protects you.
How it works on Studio Haven
Care guides are under Forms. Write one per method if you teach more than one. When you mark the session Complete, the first aftercare email goes out, and the follow-ups send on the schedule you set in Client journey. Placeholders like the client's name fill in automatically.
Later on, the client can send you healed photos and request a touch-up from their portal, with up to five photos attached. You get the request by email and decide whether to send them a touch-up booking link. More on that in the touch-up guide.
See it from the client side
Open the demo studio and book it the way a client would, deposit and all. You don't need an account. When you're ready, set up your own page.

Questions artists ask
When should aftercare go out?
The first message the same day, while they're still wrapped. Then a check-in a few days later when the peeling and itching start, and one more around the time it's healed.
Should I recommend products?
If you have a product you trust, say so, and say why. If you sell it at the shop, mention it in the day-one message. Keep it to one or two things, not a shopping list.
How do I get healed photos back?
Ask for them. A short message around the healed mark asking for a photo gets far more replies than hoping people tag you.
