Square Appointments is a till. It is not a flash sheet.
If you already take cards with Square, Appointments looks like the next click. Then you try to sell flash off it, or take a deposit before you draw, and you are back in DMs.
What Square is actually good at
Square at the counter is real. Tips, aftercare cream, a print, a card reader that just works. Nobody here is telling you to throw the hardware in a drawer. The miss is treating Square Appointments like tattoo booking because the logo is already on the desk.
Appointments thinks in services: a length, a price, a repeating slot. That is a haircut. A tattoo is a piece with a count, a custom that should not be bookable until you say so, and a person who might be coming back for session three. Square will take the money. It will not run that story.
Where artists end up anyway
Flash stays on Instagram. The deposit is an e-transfer or a Square invoice you built by hand. Aftercare is a copy-paste. Healed photos live in a camera roll. Appointments holds a time named "tattoo." You did not get rid of the desk work. You added a calendar to it.
- Flash. Needs a sheet and a count, not a generic service.
- Customs. Need a yes and a quote, not an instant slot.
- Sleeves. Need to stay attached to the same client.
- Aftercare. Should send when you mark the session done.
- Calendar. Google or Apple, two-way, so you are not maintaining two boards.
A split that does not make you pick a religion
Keep Square for in-person retail. Put the public booking page somewhere that understands flash. Studio Haven talks to Square for deposits if that is how you already get paid. Do I have to leave Square?
No. Keep Square for retail, aftercare products, and the reader at the counter. Move the online booking and deposits first. Decide later whether Appointments is still earning its keep.
Can Studio Haven take Square deposits?
Yes. Connect Square the same way you would connect Stripe. The deposit still lands in your account.
Is Square cheaper?
