Square Appointments alternative for beauty professionals
Square Appointments is a capable product, but it was not designed around treatment work. Here is where that shows, and what a treatment-first platform does differently.
Where Square Appointments falls short
Marketplace apps put you in a directory next to everyone charging less, and they own the client relationship. Beauty pros building a personal brand end up paying for the privilege of being commoditized.
Square is strong at point of sale and weak at client relationships. Consent forms, aftercare, and loyalty all end up as manual work around it.
Studio Haven vs Square Appointments at a glance
- Your own branded storefront on your own domain, not a marketplace listing
- Service menu with independent pricing and duration per treatment
- Deposits or prepayment to protect against no-shows
- Consent forms captured before the appointment, not on paper
- Client history and loyalty tracking that stays yours
- Aftercare follow-up built into the booking lifecycle
What Square Appointments does well
Square is excellent at taking money in person. If you sell retail or aftercare products at a counter, the hardware and the point of sale are a real advantage worth keeping.
The point of this page is not that Square Appointments is a bad product. It is that it was built for a different job than treatment work, and the gap shows up in the parts of the week that cost you the most time.
What switching actually involves
You can run both for a while. Keep Square for in-person retail and move online bookings and deposits across first, then decide whether the appointment side is still earning its keep.
What it costs
Studio Haven Pro is CA$15/month in Canada, or US$15/month in the United States and Europe. Draft setup is free; a 14-day trial starts when you go live. While Pro is active, clients do not pay a Studio Haven platform fee at checkout, and deposits settle into your own Stripe or Square account. The full breakdown is on the pricing page.
Try it before you move anything
Open the live demo studio and book against it as a client, deposit included, without creating an account. When it looks right, create your store and move your work across at your own pace. More comparisons are in the guides index.
